Lao Sze Chuan in Baltimore, MD: The Best Group Feast Is a Golden Peking Duck and a Whole Roasted Seabass

A whole duck carved for the table and a sea bass the Baltimore Banner called the real showstopper: how to plan the most impressive group dinner or private night at Chef Dong Liu's Lao Sze Chuan in Charles Village.

Lao Sze Chuan Baltimore is an IVEA restaurant at 3224 St Paul St. in Charles Village, Baltimore, MD, and its kitchen is run by Chef Dong Liu, IVEA's Executive Chef for Chinese cuisine. For a birthday, a team dinner or any night out with a group, two dishes on its menu are built to be the centerpiece of the table.

Centerpiece one: the Golden Peking Duck. On the menu as 金牌北京烤鸭 ($40), it is served sliced with thin pancakes, scallion, cucumber and sauce, the way Peking duck has long been eaten. In a July 2025 post about a private dinner, the restaurant wrote that its "Executive Chef expertly carves the duck like a pro." For a Mother's Day takeout deal the same year, it described the duck as "perfectly crispy."

Centerpiece two: the whole roasted sea bass. The Sichuan Roasted European Seabass (老四川烤欧鲈, $56) arrives whole in chili oil over its own burner. In February 2026 the Baltimore Banner called it "the real showstopper" and named Lao Sze Chuan its favorite new addition to Baltimore's Asian dining scene. It can sell out, so ask when you book.

Build the rest of the table. Around the two showpieces, the menu has dim sum such as Pork Soup Dumplings (3 for $9), Sichuan classics like Lao Sze Chuan Mapo Tofu with Ground Beef ($16) and Chongqing Spicy Chicken ($21), and milder plates for guests who want less heat. Rice is not included; white rice is $1.50.

Private nights. The restaurant has hosted private events, closing its main dining room for one in May 2025 while keeping its small room open to other guests. For a group, call ahead to ask about the room and to reserve the duck and sea bass, the most impressive pair of dishes for a celebration in Charles Village.
